I'm up in Canada where the weather at the extremes will exceed the specs of these cams on the low and high side. Like this morning its 19 deg F and can get up over 108 in the summer. So far this year its been below 0 deg F.
My question is, how do cameras like the BB-HCM531A react when the temp is way below the 32 deg F range? It seems all the cams have the same temperature ratings so I thought I'd ask the people who actually use them. I know temperature was an issue with analog cams and I don't want to go back to buying cases with heaters.
Thanks

Hi Rob,
The 531 has mechanical pan and tilt which may freeze up and snap should you try to move around. If you're going to place the camera in extremely low temperatures I would suggest something from Mobotix. None of their cameras have any moving parts. Mobotix have a camera in the Arctic which has been there for about 3 years and is still running. take a look at the Mobotix M24-IT-D22.

We had a case where a customer had a Panasonic BB-HCM580 and it was in a situation where it was too hot. The camera shut itself down before it was damaged.
Not sure if it would do the same if it were too cold... _________________ Follow us on Twitter! - http://www.twitter.com/networkwebcams |

Thanks for the replies.
So if the only issue is a mechanical one, are you saying as long as I don't pan/tilt in below zero temps, then no damage to the electronics will occur? This is what I was worried about. I'm glad to hear they have a high temp cutoff. |

I have heard of image sensors also cracking due to extreme cold but this was in storage rather than during operation.
