|
|
I want to setup a system with 2 cameras to take picture of a new house that I am having bult.
Idealy I would like to take a picture evert 10 minutes or so as well as having the abilty to detect and record movement.
I would like high resolution picture if possible.
Any ideas what I should be looking at? Price is less important than quality. |

I'd say Mobotix hands down. Have a look at the M24M-SEC-D22. This is a 3-megapixel, outdoor quality camera which features PoE and on-camera storage (4GB microSD card upgradable to 32GB).
I would set up the camera with a 32GB card and then configure an event to upload a hi-res image to the card once every 10 minutes. At the end of the project you can download these to your computer and compile your movie.
Alternatively if you have a computer on site you can store footage to a local network drive or NAS drive. I would recommend doing this is you intend on using motion detection as microSD cards will have a finite amount of space which you do not want to fill with motion detection footage.

hyperdrinky, thanks for the info, that does look like a very nice camera and ideal for me.
However I am a bit confused by the mobotix range and numbering and even reading through their own web site I am still confused. Even cameras in the same range e.g. M24 seem to differ greatly in price and the name like SEC and IT etc sont seem to be explained.
I am really after 2 camera to cover the whole site so If I can work out what these numbers mean I may be able to work out what I need to buy. For example could I get one M24M-SEC-D22 and one M24M-IT-D22 ? |

This should explain the numbers in the range:
IT - VGA quality
SEC - 3-megapixel quality
D22 - 90 degree lens
D32 - 60 degree lens
D43 - 45 degree lens
Going for a SEC or an IT really depends on the quality of the images you want to capture.

I have now got my 2 cameras but I am not sure of the best way of setting them up to do what you suggested above. Any pointers, the manuals are a bit daunting !
Also is it possible to have the camers do the time lapse and also do moption detection as well? I am pretty sure it can do that but the menus are a bit confusing ...
I do like the quality of the cameras, much much better than any I have had before. |

Sounds like 2 goals with one bad solution.
I did a "house build over time" project and I used a 12 MPx camera mounted on a tripod. I'd take three images from the same spots each day and then I used photo editing software to join the images into single composites.
Once I had all the images into single daily shots I aligned all the images to the same reference points.
From there I imported the images into a studio for video editing and told the software to interpolate between the images as frames.
The end result was a nice high def video of the construction of the home. At any point you can pause and zoom in to see the mistakes the workers made during the build because it is such high resolution.
For the other concern, watching any activity, I'd use a cheap DVR from any old security company with the emphasis being secure/weather proof cameras vs. quality since you're getting great shots from the time-lapse project.
If you already have cameras, then you just need a DVR box? |

| One of my good friends had a similar need for a security system and he found one online from a company called Lorex. It was a 2 camera wireless security camera system with a 7 inch LCD monitor and a small built in hard drive. He was actually was very happy with the system. I believe the system was called the LW2702. You can go on to google and search for Lorex and you should find the company's website. |

Hello, the Lorex LW2702 looks very attractive.
Are there similar systems that work with other brand IP camera's ?
I suppose one could use an apple Ipad and the standard viewing software ? eh ?
Thanks,
Frank |
